Personally oversaw the repressive criminal case against Sergei Magnitsky. One month after Magnitsky’s testimony against police officers for the $230 million fraud, authorized those police officers to investigate the $230 million fraud and to work on the case against Magnitsky under which he was arrested. Authorized Magnitsky’s detention for 12 months without trial. Signed the decree accusing in the entire $230 million a sawmill worker while state officials were absolved from responsibility.
After Magnitsky’s death, denied that Interior Ministry was aware of Magnitsky’s illnesses and that Magnitsky had complained to investigators about the denial of medical care.
